Maher Iskander is the Founder and Managing Partner of the firm in Egypt and has over 35 years of practical experience in criminal, commercial and corporate law.

Maher is widely known and respected by both peers and clients alike as a strong general litigator, one who is capable of defending his clients before all levels of the Egyptian courts, including the Court of Cassation.

His experience in criminal law is varied, randing from bribery, embezzlement, forgery, information technology crimes, commercial fraud and illegitimate competition, antitrust, infringement of intellectual property rights, to professional malpractice and negligence, theft; slander/libel; assault, harassment and numerous other matters.

Maher also has seasoned expertise in shareholder disputes, disputes on public take-over bids and joint-venture disputes.

Maher’s years of experience have solidified his position as one of Egypt’s most aggressive litigators, and this has allowed him to gain innumerable successes for his clients.

Sylvia Sidrak

Partner – Lawyer

Sylvia Sidrak is a Partner at Andersen in Egypt. Aside from offering general corporate law services such as company formation, entity licensing, providing advice on corporate governance, handling acquisition transactions and assisting the client throughout the entire course of the transaction. Assistance rendered to clients includes conducting legal due diligence; as well as drafting, reviewing, negotiating and advising on commercial contracts and transaction-related documents including, share purchase agreements, shareholders’ agreements, escrow agreements, management agreements and disclosure documents.

Sylvia has a deep bench of experience in providing clients with comprehensive legal support in relation to Employment, Labor, and Social Insurance laws in Egypt.

Sylvia’s range of experience extends to handling employment law disputes both through litigation or amicable dispute resolutions including participation in negotiations and mediating between employers and employees, dealing with governmental agencies for the attainment of all licenses and permits pertaining to foreign employees, drafting and reviewing internal policies and regulations, all human resources matters, provision of regulatory advice to clients on day-to-day employment, labor, and social insurance matters, provision of legal support for personnel integration post-merger/ acquisition, workforce and management restructuring, and advising in cases of downsizing and closure of companies.

Helena Constantine

Helena is specialized in all dispute resolution methods, including litigation, mediation and arbitration, for both civil and commercial disputes.

Helena’s practice is on tax law disputes as she has successfully represented clients in numerous administrative court cases held at the state council, against the Egyptian Tax Authority. Over the years, she has gained significant experience in tax law, as well as in shareholding acquisitions, joint ventures and corporate finance transactions.

Helena’s experience broadly covers areas of corporate law, contract law, foreign investment and intellectual property. Additionally, Helena has worked with multinational companies and individuals on cross boarder matters ranging from inheritance disputes for high-net-worth individuals, to import and export matters for companies.

Helena’s experience is supported by her postgraduate degree in Private International Law from Jean Moulin Lyon III University in France.

Lena Hamdi

Partner – Lawyer

Lena Hamdi is a partner and lawyer at Andersen in Egypt. She has extensive experience providing consolidated legal and business advice to companies, and in particular start-ups and technology companies.

Lena’s experience is focused on cybersecurity and data protection, including but not limited to the following:

Assisting companies in compiling their data inventory and data mapping
Conducting GDPR audits, privacy impact assessments (PIA) and data protection impact assessments (DPIA) (as per EU and Egyptian Laws) to identify and resolve regulatory compliance issues
Creating privacy policies and frameworks for companies and their employees
Drafting and/or reviewing platform terms and conditions to ensure compliance with local and international laws
Advising merging or multinational companies on cross-border data transfer issues
Advising companies on data breach mitigation and remediation methods.
Lena has also successfully represented clients in technology disputes both in arbitration and litigation.

Lena Hamdi was also appointed to the Andersen Global Board of Directors in 2018 in her position as Co-Regional Managing Director of Andersen’s Middle East offices.

Khaled Ali

Senior Partner – Tax Service Line Leader

Khaled is a senior tax partner at Andersen in Egypt. He has 35 years of experience in compliance and tax practice, and he is a fellow of the Egyptian Tax Society.

Khaled provides tax and corporate advice to Egyptian and foreign groups in multiple industries, his expertise includes:

Identifying risk areas related to tax and providing effective alternatives to mitigate the risks.
Providing tax compliance reviews for multinational and local clients.
Helping his customers find new and innovative tax solutions to meet their specific circumstances. This includes the preparation of projections on taxable income, research on various tax issues and the preparation of individual and commercial tax declarations.
Providing financial due diligence, business, financial and economic plans.
Offering clients corporate and tax support and periodical reporting packages (financials, monthly reconciliation, corporate income tax and VAT returns, daily tax consultancy).
Providing ordinary/extraordinary tax consulting in M&A transactions.
Drafting memoranda and opinions on tax law and litigation matters, in collaboration with the legal team.
Over the years, Khaled has obtained several favorable rulings from the Egyptian tax authorities, contributing to solving issues on the interpretation of specific provisions of tax legislation.

Prior to joining Andersen Egypt as a tax partner, Khaled worked at Ernst and Young (EY) Egypt from June 2002 till February 2020. He also worked at Arthur Andersen from May 1992 till May 2002.

Mohamed is a Partner at Andersen in Egypt with more than 19 years of experience in Corporate finance and other compliance services. Mohamed’s Experience ranges from advising SMEs through to large, global multi-nationals and family groups, as well as various private equity houses.

Mohamed led major corporate finance assignments in various sectors including real estate, manufacturing, trading, Oil & Gas, Food & Agriculture, Livestock, Metal and Energy sectors. Mohamed has significant expertise in the following service offerings:

Strategy articulation, with a special focus on market entry assessment and expansion strategy
